Sheik Muhammad Jamaluddin (Vaadhoo Dhannakaleygefaanu), a Malé-born scholar, spent 40 years studying in Yemen before returning to GDh Vaadhoo during the reign of Bodu Thakurufaanu. There, he founded the Maldives' first international Islamic learning center, teaching traditional Halaqa study circles on the porch of the local mosque. His expertise drew students and academics from the Maldives, Persia, Yemen, and Malabar, a global influence evidenced by Arabic gravestone inscriptions in the island's cemetery. Huvadhoo Atoll Chief Dhiharei Muhammad Kaleygefaanu built the current masonry around the Sheikh's resting place in 1912, during the reign of King Shamsuddin.
