Local tradition holds that GDh. Vaadhoo was inhabited thousands of years ago by the Redin, a legendary pre-settlement people described as physically tall and strong. Often compared in local lore to early northern seafaring groups such as the Vikings, the Redin left behind distinctively large grave sites that can still be found on the island. Conducting archaeological excavations and carbon dating on these ancient burial mounds could provide scientific clarity regarding the Maldives' earliest inhabitants, preserving an irreplaceable part of Vaadhoo's historic identity.
